Captain Jack Roberts (1925 - 2008 Texas) Obituary

CAPT. JACK ROBERTS born September 09, 1925 into a loving family - raised in part by maternal/paternal grandparents.

Attended public schools in Ft. Worth, Texas and graduated for Paschal High in 1943. Upon graduation he become a midshipman in the U.S. Merchant Marine and sailed for California. After a voyage to Tasmania, India, Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean he returned to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kingspoint where he graduated in 1945. After graduation he sailed on various ships and completed numerous courses until he obtained his unlimited masters license in 1948.

Capt. Jack built barges, owned a barge terminal and barge company and with late wife, Stella, his son, Jay and his wife, Helen, owned and operated the Flamingo Café in Clearlake.

Capt. Jack had a wonderful travel life and was a very prideful person -- particularly proud of his two children, Jay Wayne and Diana Lynne, along with daughter-in-law Helen, granddaughters Cece Talbott and Chawnia Meeks, their husbands, John Talbott and David Meeks and great granddaughter Alyssa Star Talbott.

Capt. Jack's other achievements were Eagle Scout and held a B.S. in Science from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kingspoint. He was a Master and 32° Mason, served as President of the Kingspoint Alumni, member of the Maritime Law Association and the Houston Mariners Club.

There will be a visitation July 11, 2008 Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland. The service will be July 12, 2008 Saturday at 10:00 am in the chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Bob Joiner officiating. Interment will follow at Southpark Cemetery. " I have sailed rough seas - calm waters and been blessed - I have seen this world and am looking forward to meeting, again, Stella, my parents, God and all of those who passed before (Alexander Graham Bell, Lincoln, Moses, etc.) -- God Bless for I have truly been blessed and as that ` You laugh with me one more time'."
