YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sidney Harris, 91, “our beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully on Dec. 12, 2017 in his sleep.”

Sid was born in Donora, Pennsylvania to Lillian and Benjamin Harris on Sept. 16, 1926.

He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown, Ohio and served in the Navy during World War II.
He soon after married Doris Lieberman and they lovingly raised their four children in Youngstown, OH.

Sid devoted 35 years as an umpire with the Youngstown Umpire Association and later in life could be found during every Indians game with his headphones on rooting for his team.

He volunteered for the Mended Hearts Association for 21 years, where he also served as president of the local chapter. Despite Sid’s many physical challenges, he lived a very full and active life and could always be counted on to make people laugh with his endless supply of jokes. He also enjoyed playing guitar, golf and tap dance, while blind.

His main focus was always his family and he enjoyed weekly lunches with his grandson.

He leaves two children, Renee Harris and William Harris and five grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Megan, Ryan and Tyler. He also shared a mutual adoration with his three sisters, Sylvia, Rae and Hannah (deceased).

Calling hours will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23, 2018, followed by an 11:30 a.m. memorial service at Rodef Sholom Temple in Tamarkin Chapel.

Material tributes may be sent to rodefsholom@sbcglobal.net
