POLAND, Ohio - Susan Cverko Reichert 96, passed away Monday morning, July 11, 2016.
Sue was born Feb. 12, 1920, in Campbell, Ohio, the daughter of Andrew and Anna Evan Cvercko.
She was a 1938 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, where she served as the President of the National Honor Society. Sue lived in Campbell for over 80 years before moving to Poland, OH. (Mahoning County)
She and her husband Mike, owned and operated Reichert’s Catering, featuring Sue’s home cooking from 1947 to 1972.
Sue was originally a parishioner of St. John Russian Orthodox Church before becoming an active member of St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church.
Sue was involved in the school PTA and serving as the trip coordinator for the Campbell Senior Citizens.
She traveled to Europe, Hawaii, China, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Fiji, Mexico, Canada, and most of America.
In 1980, she was named “Woman of the Year” by the Campbell Senior Citizens.
Sue golfed well into her 80s and she served as secretary for many bowling and golf leagues. She loved to sew and crocheted many afghans and tablecloths, and about a million hanger covers.
She also enjoyed ceramics, especially seasonal items.
Her husband, Michael J. Reichert, her high school sweetheart, whom she married, May 18, 1940, passed away in 2011.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Thomas A. Reichert Ph.D., M.D. and wife Lana of Boston, James M. Reichert and wife Karen of Youngstown, Ohio, and Susan K. Reichert M.D. and husband John Walkenhorst of Bend, Oregon; grandchildren Tod K. Reichert and wife Karen of Virginia, Nina Reichert of California, Ren Reichert Walkenhorst of Oregon, and Doe Renee Tolle of California; her great-grandchildren, Ava, Cate and Sydney Reichert; her brother, Andrew Cvercko and sister-in-law Anne of North Lima, OH; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cvercko (Michael) of Florida and Lillian Reichert (Edward) of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Michael, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen S. Reichert, who died in childhood; her grandson, Matthew Reichert, who also died in childhood; her sisters, Anne Billik, Mary Siembieda and Elizabeth Cvercko; and her brothers, John and Michael Cvercko.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Sue’s memory to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512; or Akron Children’s Hospital, 6505 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church
