NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – Wanda Chwiej Payne, 89, formerly of Boardman, Ohio died Jan. 16, 2017, at Masternick Memorial.
Wanda was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) a daughter of Adam and Helen Nieradka Chwiei.
At the age of 5, her father passed away and her mother took Wanda and her brother back to Poland.
She was in Poland when she made her first communion. Her family later traveled to Brazil to make their home.
In 1948, when their mother passed away, Wanda returned to the United States and made her home in Youngstown.
Wanda worked as a server in the cafeteria of Northside Hospital until her marriage to her husband, William R. Payne, on June 8, 1951.
He died Jan. 11, 2010.
She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jan (Genevieve) Payne of Youngstown, and one brother, Janek Chwiej of Wilkes Barre, Pa.
Wanda was a wonderful cook, enjoyed crafts.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
